I think personal morality should always be something that you use, whether in a work environment or personal environment. It is also how you use your personal morality that is key as well. As an attorney, it should be used in certain situations. Possibly when giving advice to a client, not just the laws by for their personal morality as well. If a client is having issues with the other parent in a custody case, the attorney could use personal morality to help their client with the issues by giving advice on co-parenting or talking them down from being mean to the other parent, etc. I think it could be good and bad, depending on the situation it is used. You can't exactly use personal morality for murder cases, child welfare cases, etc. This would be too difficult since they are hard cases to deal with to begin with. Personal morality needs to be judged before used and to make sure you are doing the right thing. I know I would not be able to use personal morality to win a case involving someone that murdered a family, abused a child, raped a woman or man. I would have to put my personal morality to the side and fight for my client. I would have to do what is needed to help my client and win the case. There could be potential consequences by following personal morality rather than just the ethical rules. If you are too involved in your emotions in the case it could cause issues on the defense of the person you are representing. If the attorney feels they cannot put their emotions and personal morality to the side they should stop representing that client. It would not be fair to the client to have an attorney that is running off of personal morality. How could someone agree with this discussion ?
