I thought the PIE unit (method) was very interesting. I mentioned in my post that the military still uses a similar method called R&R (rest and recovery). Though R&R and PIE units have the same idea in mind, the locations are different. The PIE unites were usually held close to the hostile environments in which the servicemember experienced the trauma (Jones & Wesley, 2014). Rest and recovery usually happens in a different country or city far from war. For example, while stationed in Afghanistan, our rest and recover unit was located in Germany. Servicemembers would take two to four weeks of recovery before returning back to the hostile environment. However, R&R was adopted by some branches to mean recovery from long tours - not just combat. What I found interesting in some articles about P.I.E was some stated that member(s) were made to believe they could return to war. This shows that psychologist implemented confidence and positive thinking into their recovery methods. If you could bring one current treatment method to the days of WWI and WWII, what would it be?
