I was so excited when I met Barbara 25 years ago. We got married right away and had a child together. I was so invested in my family and I did everything I could to protect them. When our son was born 23 years ago, I had a lawyer draft an advanced health care directive naming Barbara as my agent. The directive was properly notarized and placed on file with my long-term physician. Sadly, Barbara and I divorced 5 years ago.

Last year, I fell into a coma and was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Although Barbara and I were divorced, I wanted her by my side, and she was the only person I trusted to make decisions for me. When I awoke, I found out that my son had made all of my medical decisions as my next of kin. I don't understand why this happened, even though Barbara was my named agent.

Barbara has agreed to grant my dying wish by re-marrying me. We are going to straighten all of this out together.
