i) Wet steam of 90% steam quality and 65.0 bar passes through a valve and is throttled down to a pressure of 1.00 bar. What is the steam quality and entropy of the outlet stream? You may assume the process is adiabatic and potential/kinetic energy changes are negligible.
ii) Wet steam of 90% steam quality and 60.0 bar is compressed to a superheated steam at 65.0 bar and 290C using a compressor in a steady-state flow process. Determine: a) the shaft work (kJkg) required by the compressor, and; b) the efficiency of the compressor. You may assume the process is adiabatic and potential/kinetic energy changes are negligible.
iii) Wet steam of 95% steam quality and 65.0 bar is expanded to wet steam of 80% steam quality at 1.0 bar using a turbine in a steady-state flow process. Determine: a) the shaft work (kJkg produced by the turbine, and; b) the efficiency of the expander. You may assume the process is adiabatic and potential/kinetic energy changes are negligible.
