I would like to focus particularly on diversity. The topic of diversity, tolerance, and inclusion has been widely (and, in many cases, hotly) debated in society over the past several years. In my opinion (and this is up for discussion - hence this discussion here), the history of discrimination in the U.S. (along with too many other factors to enumerate them here) has led to a polarization of opinions around diversity and tolerance that has taken on the flavor of "You must tolerate me" and an assertion of individual rights. While we do have individual rights, and deserve societal protections of those rights, when this is taken to extreme, it leads to further division, not unity, within a society. If we are to have unity and a true tolerance, we often must set aside our own individual rights at times for the welfare (and tolerance) of another and society as a whole.

For this discussion, I would like to hear whether or not you agree or disagree with my take on things (And why), and I would love to hear your thoughts on how you think we can best move towards truly valuing diversity together as a society. Please feel free to express your own opinion, but also think of how the way you are expressing it may be received by others! I am hoping that this discussion can unify us, rather than divide us!
