I would say I do partially agree with Porter's assessment of how the soft drink industry could be attractive based the five forces model and this is why. When you look at the competitiveness and rivalries in the industry, there is a really high level of rivalry within few companies (Coca-Cola and Pepsi), the fact that there is such a massive oligopolistic structure is the reason I say "partially". As an already big player in this industry, life is great, high barriers to entry, super concentrated rivalry and very low supplier power (due to the commoditized nature of raw materials in general). But to say this is an attractive industry to enter, would be an overstatement. I think it would be very difficult to pierce into this industry as a new entrant because of the fierce competition and brand loyalty, so my answer is yes and no, really depends who the question is pointing to.
