Ian Thomas, a Training Consultant who has extensive work experience in HR and senior management positions in various hotels throughout Fiji, was invited to do a guest lecture for the Commerce and Hospitality and Tourism students at Namaka Campus. Below are two common unethical issues highlighted by Mr Thomas in the hospitality industry:

  1. Time Clock and Time Sheet Abuse: employees arriving late and having others punch in for them; falsifying your time sheet and lying to your supervisor about work performed.
  2. Tardiness: failure to maintain personal presentation standards of the hotel such as lack of personal hygiene and grooming, love bites and kanikani. In (1) above, one of the major complaints in the workplace is that many hotel employees falsify their time sheets and lie to their supervisors afterwards.
