Icelandic law mandates that doctors offer genetic screening to pregnant women, in order to determine the existence of Down Syndrome and offer abortion to those babies. Close to 85% of women opt for the screening and where the screening reveals that the child does have Down Syndrome, nearly 100% of them abort that child. Based on Iceland's small population, it is reasonable to assume that the country could entirely eradicate Down Syndrome within a short time.
