Identity to be written about: 'I AM MORE THAN A DAUGHTER'

Identify is so important, and as we go through life, for both men and women I think it is often put on the back burner. It was in my case a bit, and I didn't really notice for a while. We are all a lot of things, to name a few, I am a daughter, sister, friend, cousin, niece, coworker, employee, wife, mother and now almost college graduate. Going through life we grow from one stage to the next and honestly last summer I found myself looking at myself and thinking I am going to try it and see what happens. I said that to myself when I was getting ready to make a huge career change to ultimately benefit my family. I was thinking I am 27yrs old and I quit college when I found out I was pregnant with my first child. I decided I had to focus elsewhere. Last summer I thought to myself, I want so much out of life and for this big career move to pay off I must finish. I took 2 classes summer 2021 to test myself. I surprised myself and I passed the classes. At that moment I knew I was going to finish this associates degree a started 8yrs ago. In some ways I think I lost an identity but gained so many more at the same time. As time goes on, I am certain it will only get better.

The purpose of the paper is to allow you to assess yourself as an intercultural communicator and explore your social/ethnic/cultural background and determine its influence on your cultural identity.

Respond to the following prompts in college essay format. paper should be about 3-4 pages, contain an introductory paragraph that includes a hook and thesis statement, includes supporting paragraphs that specifically answer the prompts, and ends with a concluding paragraph that summarizes your main points. 12 pt. font and double-spaced. Also, a large part of your grade will be based on your ability to find strong information about your background and use specific examples to illustrate your points. I.Discuss yourself as an Intercultural Communicator.

Referring to major concepts from Chapter 2, identify your abilities as an intercultural communicator. Your response should include but is not limited to answers to the following: When have you found yourself to be ethnocentric? When is it easier to be ethnorelative? What knowledge, skills and attitudes do you possess about intercultural communication? Where do you see yourself on the staircase model and why?

II. Discuss your identities.

Referring to information in Chapter 4, tell about your social (ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, social class, religious affiliation, ability/disability, and professional), ethnic (where your ancestors are from) and personal (unique attributes) identities. Include a discussion of your cultural identity and cultural identity salience in the United States. Choose one of your social identities and a co-culture to which you belong. Using the Iceberg Model as a guide (see Chapter 1), describe your co-culture. What are the characteristics of people in your co-culture? What is your co-culture's place in the larger culture? What prejudices are there against the co-culture? Use credible sources and your own experiences to support and illustrate your points.

III. Identify your Identity Development.

Using either the Cultural-Ethnic Identity Typological Model or the Racial-Ethnic Identity Development Model, describe the development of your identity. use examples to illustrate your points.

Based on the information you gathered from your answering the questions above, write a six-word memoir that encapsulates your identity. Think about the story your identities tell and consider these questions: How has the larger culture of the US influenced the way you experience your identity? What does it mean to see, taste, touch, smell and hear from your perspective? Write your memoir and then write a paragraph explaining how it relates to your identity.
