1. If a University has an anti-piracy policy, discuss your thoughts on the policy, whether you think it's working, what you like about the policy as a future music business professional, and whether you think the policy is "fair" to the students. Talk amongst yourselves and don't be afraid to speak your mind!
2. If not, discuss why such a policy might be needed in a college environment, what you'd expect to see in such a policy, and how it might be received by students.
3. Have any of you encountered a friend, colleague, or fellow student (no names please!) who believes that it's "ok" to copy music, movies, etc.? Share your experience and/or your discussion of copyright issues with him/her.
4. For instance, here is my story: Our former IT professional has a personal website and brought to me one day a cease and desist letter from a record company. Evidently he'd been using a song, without permission, on that website and had gotten caught. Despite our lengthy discussion regarding artists needing to be paid, piracy being theft, etc., he still believed that he should have been able to use the music for free. It's amazing how some people just don't understand the impact of piracy on the music industry. I'm sure that some of you have had a similar experience (maybe even your own!).
