Imagine that we suspect that the results of the Illinois Workplace Wellness study are due to the specific demographic make-up of faculty and staff at the University of Illinois. We think that a more representative sample of workplaces will show that Workplace Wellness Programs (WWPS) have beneficial effects anyway. We select 100 different workplaces spread out over 10 different US states, that represent a number of different employment sectors. We then conduct the same study, following the exact same protocol as the Illinois Workplace Wellness study. We find that in only 1 out of 100 of the workplaces we studied WWPs had beneficial effects.
