Scenario

There are a number of monuments outside your state supreme court's offices. A Kiwanis club recently donated a new monument of the Ten Commandments and placed it with the other monuments outside the supreme court. A group of atheists filed a lawsuit and asked the court to remove the religious monument because the group felt it violated the First Amendment's Establishment Clause. You are on the legal teamfighting to keep the religious monumentoutside your supreme court.

Your supervising attorney asks you to (1) provide a brief of the case, and (2) provide a one-two paragraph summary comparing our scenario to what happened in the Van Orden case and how you think the case will help you. When you asked the attorney where to find the Van Orden case, he said it was a 2005 U.S. Supreme Court case.
