Imagine you are hired as a supervisor in an office environment. On your first day at work, you are shown the office of Sam, the lowest-performing member of the work team.

The other employees tell you that Sam isn't very cooperative, doesn't come out of his cubicle very much, and often calls in sick. He's worked in the office a long time, and can be verbally aggressive, so nobody really challenges what's happening.
