"In 1949 a 23-year-old Pakistani called Abdus Salam earned a first-class degree in physics from Cambridge University in only one year, an almost unheard-of achievement. In 1950 he solved a problem in mathematical physics that had been holding up theorists, and became famous (at least among particle physicists) overnight. Abdus Salam returned to Pakistan soon thereafter but was isolated, doing little more rewarding than manage the college soccer team. In 1954, he reluctantly returned to Britain. He shared the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1979 for his work in electroweak unification."

What problem faced by developing countries is indicated in the above story about Abdus Salam? Give proper logic to explain your answer.
