Responsibility, Honesty, and Trust are three key values that are important in any kind of relationship, whether that relationship be personal, or business related. It is important to be ethical even in a work environment because you have a lot more riding on the decisions you are making and how your decisions effect other people. Ethics hold you accountable for your actions. Having great ethics help maintain a good reputation and help to avoid financial and legal issues For example, in a surgery setting, sterility is very important. All the supplies and instruments that are used in a surgery are sterile, meaning free of any germs and help in preventing infection. As a surgical technologist sterility is our main focus. When we are setting up the sterile field for a big case before the patient gets in the room and notice a hair on the table once the setup is complete. It would be easy to just remove the hair and pretend that it was never there, but you have to think about the protocol that you committed to, to maintain the storility of the OR. Will pointing out the hair, causing you to break everything down and start over again be a lot of work, yes. Will starting over cause a delay in the surgery making the surgeon angry and upset, yes but will you have integrity knowing that you followed protocol and striving to give the best outcome for the patient
