In 2001, BC held a general provincial election. When you consider how each individual person in BC voted, the results were:

  • 58% voted BC Liberal Party
  • 22% voted BC New Democrat Party
  • 20% voted for other parties

However, BC's voting system gave an unusual result. At the time, there were 79 electoral districts in BC.The BC Liberal Party won seats in 77 electoral districts and the BC New Democratic Party won seats in 2 electoral districts. This gave the BC Liberal Party unprecedented government control with very little opposition.

Comment on this outcome and what you think makes a "good" voting system.(Don't forget sto incorporate concepts taught in Lecture 4!)
