In 2004, BBC journalist and columnist Ben Hammersley invented the word "podcast," a combination of the words "iPod" and "broadcast." With more than 850,000 active podcasts in 2021 and more than 30 million podcast episodes, this modern journalistic trend is used by many mainstream journalists. Why would news organizations and journalists take the time to produce a podcast from content they've already created for other media sources, such as television, newspapers, or magazines? Podcasts are portable, convenient, easy to produce, and an additional way to market content. Creating a podcast allows news organizations to share explicit information without censure. Podcasts enables news organizations to highlight politicians in a more partisan way than would be acceptable on TV.
