In 2030, Spurnadium-infused oil is a huge industry throughout the United States. The four major components of the industry are mining, production, manufacturing, and distribution. At the annual Spurnadium convention, a group of miners, representing 65 percent of that industry, approached the nine main production and manufacturing leaders, comprising 75 percent of that industry, with a concern. The miners believed that the producers' elevated prices to manufacturers were hindering the amount of material that the miners could mine and still make money. The miners' proposal was to form a conglomeration between the largest groups of miners, processers, and manufacturers. The merger would cut the cost for each step of the Spurnadium oil process, thereby, allowing the miners to flood the market with Spurnadium oil at a fraction of the price of any competitor. Because the group was concerned that the distributors and retailers would not drop the retail-end price of the oil, the conglomeration would force the retailers and distributors to enter into an agreement capping the price of the oil when sold in the local market.
