in 2-3 sentences: When I was in college I worked for a small grocery chain. When I took my application in (by hand because that is how we still did things then) I was asked a few questions on the spot then told that I would be called for an interview after my references were contacted. I walked out confused because this was not my first job (I worked retail and public child care as well) and it seemed like they were doing things a little out of order. In my previous experiences it went like this: application--> interview --> contact references. My references were in fact contacted and I was called for an interview with the department supervisor. She let me know that she would talk to the store manager and I would be called for a 2nd interview if he wanted to meet with me... a 2nd interview? For a grocery store position?! I got the call from him and again went in for another interview. He did not waste time addressing the reason for his hiring process. Right away he told me "You are probably wondering why you had to come in for a 2nd interview
