In a percentile/z score question when do we have to use area beyond and when area between mu and z? Also when do we have to add 50 to the area and when do we have to deduct 50?

is it correct that when the question says to calculate area between two positive z scores, we deduct their areas and if ut asks the area for one negative and one positive z score we add the areas ?
