In an effort to prepare you for writing your research essay, I would like you to complete an annotated reference list for two sources that will referenced in your essay. As noted in class, the topic for your essay must be related to some aspect of personal support work or healthcare.

For your annotated reference list, you must:

1. Search for two credible college level sources
2. Create the APA Style reference list entries for each source. Please ensure that you pay attention to indents, spacing, alphabetization, capitalization, punctuation, and italics.
3. Write a brief paragraph (80-120 words is sufficient) summarizing each source's main points and key concepts. You should make sure that you accurately represent the article's content and avoid picking out random or non-contextualized details.

Please look at the bottom of this sheet for an example of the title page and assignment in general.

Maak, T. (2007). Responsible leadership, stakeholder engagement, and the emergence of social capital. Journal of Business Ethics, 74, 329-343.

This article focuses on the role of social capital in responsible leadership. It looks at both the social networks that a leader builds within an organisation, and the links that a leader creates with external stakeholders. Maak's main aim with this article seems to be to persuade people of the importance of continued research into the abilities that a leader requires and how they can be acquired. The focus on the world of multinational business means that for readers outside this world many of the conclusions seem rather obvious (be part of the solution not part of the problem). In spite of this, the article provides useful background information on the topic of responsible leadership and definitions of social capital which are relevant to an analysis of a public servant

Evaluation:

In order to achieve a grade in the "A" range, based on the Evaluation Standards, the annotated reference list has to include the following:

• APA Formatting:Each entry must have a properly formatted APA reference as it would appear in a reference list. This means that you should double check your references to be sure that you have used capital letters where appropriate, periods where necessary, and commas when needed. Also, you should ensure that you have included all the necessary information about the entry (e.g., author, title, journal name)
• Content:The annotations must be a clear and concise summary of the entry. You should summarize the main points of the article that are relevant to your essay. You do not need to summarize information that is not related to your essay.
• Grammar, Punctuation, and Spelling: Your punctuation and grammar need to be correct through-out your annotation. Please note the major and minor errors listed in the Evaluation Standards. It may be helpful to use the spell-checker. Read your annotations out loud!
