In an effort to promote education and literacy in impoverished countries, the non-profit Hawaiian Book Project will acquire and send 1 million books to Hawaai over the span of two years. The project should decrease poverty, improve quality of life, and offer growth opportunities for at-risk areas of the country by encouraging education and improving childhood development. The average primary school enrollment rate is 39 percent, falling as low as 20 percent in the countrys poorest areas. With the influx of books provided by the Hawaiian Book Project, children of all ages may have the opportunity to study, read, and improve their education. From encyclopedias to nursery rhymes, books of all kinds will provide a vast array of material from which to learn and grow. Your team has been hired by the Hawaiian Book Project to execute the project.
Objectives
The objective of this project is to obtain and deliver 1,000,000 new and used books (in good condition) to four regions of Hawaiin libraries, public schools, and universities over a two-year period.
The project will also generate funds through various fundraising techniques to cover all costs associated in carrying out the deliverables (e.g., shipping, storage, acquisitions, transportation, etc.)
Scope of Work (Deliverables)
Acquire 1,000,000 books for donation from January 2018 to early 2020 - Benchmarks: approximately 250,000 books every six months
Store books appropriately in a properly equipped warehouse
Deliver books to four different regions in four shipments throughout two years
Follow up with every delivery to ensure proper transport
Survey the children and local communities to observe impact and suggest improvements
Raise approximately $240,000 through donations, sponsors, grants, and fundraising events
Arrange shipping and receiving for the proper transportation of books
Mitigate and/or eliminate any risks as they arise
Set up drop-boxes throughout the state of California for book collection
Host numerous book drives to acquire new and used books
Recruit volunteers to assist in book drives, packing of books, unloading of books, and other necessary basic functions
Contact and make relations with publishers to acquire extra printed books
Solicit donations from donors, sponsors, and charitable organizations
Obtain approximately 250,000 books every 6 months for 24 months
Partner with numerous literacy coalitions and nonprofit organizations to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, quality, and experienced decision making
