In chapter 14, we talk about the different types of teams that run a business organization and the effectiveness behind each one. Having a team in the organization is an essential building block for a strong organizational structure and forces for a high productivity rate, quality, cost savings, speed, change and innovation. Having a team in the organization improves the quality of decision making and are powerful forces for innovation, change and creativity. They also provide each other with feedback to help identify opportunities for growth and development. Experiencing working together as a team, helps build strong-solving capabilities, very vital for specific job skills.

Employers have hundreds of different types of varieties of groups and teams, here are a few most common groups used:

  • Work Teams: Make or do things such as manufacture, assembly, sell, or provide service
  • Project & Development Teams: Work on long-term projects, sometimes over a period of years. They are in-charge of specific assignments.
  • Parallel Teams: operate separately from the regular work structure temporarily
  • Management Teams: Coordinate and provide direction to the subunits under their jurisdiction and integrate work among subunits.
  • Transnational Teams: Are composed of multinational members whose activities span multiple countries.
  • Self-manage Teams, a group of people that often resist frontline managers plans and create plans prior to the manager

To build an effective team, it will be necessary to distribute it into three categories.

  • Team productivity: This means when a team is always on top of their work tasks and always exceeding the expectations through production and quality.
  • Team satisfaction: this is mostly focused on the employee and if there is need is satisfied.
  • Member committee: Last but not least is having a commitment among the members which leads to the group to work together and always producing new project ideas which could lead to a better successful future.
