In Chapter 3 of your text, you were introduced to a time-tested business/marketing tool called SWOT analysis. Before beginning this assignment, you are encouraged to revisit this chapter and related course materials found in Week 2, as well as company websites to better prepare for your SWOT analysis. You may also find it helpful to do a quick review of publications like the Wall Street Journal, Business Week, Fortune, or Forbes, available through the Bellevue University Library.
A'sWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) is a strategic planning method used by businesses to evaluate projects, ventures, and products or services. A SWOT diagram represents a snapshot in time, while the environment is continually changing. This environmental analysis can help you make decisions by looking at multiple areas and triggering balanced discussions of ventures.
Remember:
Strengths: Internal attributes that help to achieve goals.
Weaknesses: Internal attributes that hold back the achievement of goals.
Opportunities: External environmental conditions that support goals.
Threats: External environmental conditions that oppose or hinder performance.
Instructions
In 250 words (minimum), compose a write-up that includes and answers the prompts and questions, below. To help you craft your report, use at least 1 credible source beyond the textbook, cited using APA style both in-text and on a References list at the bottom of the paper.
To conduct your SWOT analysis, begin by identifying a private-sector company or nonprofit organization (NPO) of at least moderate size.
What industry or sector of the economy does your company or NPO occupy?
What do you think yours does well?
Find and list 3 different (direct and/or indirect) competitors that your company or NPO competes against.
Why did you choose these 3 competitors? What do they do well and what does this tell you about your company?
Using the Business SWOT chart template At as a guide, create your own SWOT chart for your chosen company or NPO by identifying at least 2 different attributes for each of the 4 sections (your chart does not have to look exactly like the example, but should include all the sections)
Be sure you've researched your company or not-for-profit well before selecting attributes.
Justify and discuss why you chose each of these 8 attributes. Provide ideas and support from your readings and research as part of your reasoning.
Which one of the key competitors that you identified earlier should your company or NPO be most concerned about? Why?
Summarize what you uncovered and what your SWOT analysis showed you. Include in your summary what you found to be the most surprising.
Remember to include with your SWOT Analysis a cover page and an abstract.
