In chapter $7,$ our text book author discusses diagnosing performance problems and introduces $($on page $118)$ systems as a potential concern. All organizations are comprised of both systems and people. These factors interplay in complex ways that either drive or diminish performance at individual and organizational levels. We will discuss this in class, but think about systems generally and also in your own workplace. They are typically things like workflow and standards, IT capabilities, levels of communication, political and hierarchical structures and others. People systems include various relationships, both formal and informal, team dynamics, culture and others as well.

For your research paper, you are an executive and have been offered two positions. Both Company X and Company Y have offered you the same salary and bonus structure. However, both companies are struggling with declining profits and market share. Annual revenues after taxes previously were about $100$ million but have dropped in the past two years. The organizations each have $500$ employees. You would have one year to turn things around significantly $($goals would be established by the board of directors to measure success$)$ and given resources to do so$.$ If successful, you would earn a substantial incentive bonus beyond the base pay package.

You must decide which company offer to take:

Company X $$ has very poor systems $($outdated and ineffective$)$ but exceptionally loyal and skilled employees

Company Y $$ has very effective and appropriate systems but very poorly trained employees and high turnover

You will choose which company to join and briefly describe why you chose it$.$ Discuss at least three steps you will take to diagnose and identify the problems the organization faces. Why are the steps you will undertake appropriate? What do you hope to find out? Your job here isn$$t to describe fixes and solutions necessarily although you may offer recommendations. The focus is really to more fully diagnose, identify and understand the challenges your organization faces so appropriate solutions could be considered and potentially implemented.

The paper should be APA formatted and $56$ pages, not including cover and reference page. At least three sources should be used. Please see the attached document for the case study. This paper is worth $200$ points and requires $5-6$ pages and at least three sources. This is the rubric I will use to evaluate and grade your assignment:

Written Rubric:

$20$ points; Clear introduction with thesis statement that focuses the paper's discussion.

$120$ points: Integration of key concepts from text and other sources that support the discussion and demonstrate critical thinking and application

$20$ points: Conclusion that briefly ties discussion together referencing back to the thesis of the paper

$40$ points: Writing is clear and organized. The paper is formatted per APA guidelines and includes in$-$text citations that align with the reference page at the end of the paper. Grammar and spelling are perfect $($please proof read, spell check and$/$or grammar check before submitting as many errors can be eliminated by doing this$).$
