In December of 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act was passed by Congress. Many say that this is the most significant change in tax law since 1986. Critics on both sides have argued the pros and cons of the Act. Throughout this class we will be introducing and discussing some the aspects of this Act (unfortunately, new textbooks that reflect these changes will not be published until sometime this summer). To start, contemplate and comment on some of these thoughts:
What have you heard so far about the tax law changes? What have you heard or read that is likely to be fact and what information appears to be politically motivated?
Are there any specific changes that will benefit you? Are you planning to make any changes in reaction to the tax law changes? Are there any changes that will hurt you?
What are some of the advantages or disadvantages of the changes that you are most interested in? Are there people or groups that you feel will be hurt by any of the changes?
