In January 2019, Lee took out five life insurance policies on his own life with the Rayal Insurance Co Ltd, amounting to RM1,000,000.00. Each policy contained the condition: "If one of the lives assured commit suicide, whether sane or insane within one year from the commencement of the assurance, the policy shall be void".It is a crime to commit suicide under the Penal Code of Malaysia. In February 2020, Lee shot himself. The claimant, Lee administratrix sued the Rayal Insurance Co Ltd claiming the amount of the insurance.
