In July 2023, the legendary indie band, Starlight Xpress, announced their first nationwide tour since Covid 19. On 15th November, while performing a warm-up gig at a small intimate venue in Kuala Lumpur, a spotlight fell onto the stage, causing a massive explosion and killing two of the band members, Yaman and Bunga. Investigations later revealed that the lighting rig (onto which the spotlight was fitted) had been poorly maintained by Moon Lighting. The sight was particularly gruesome and horrific. Yaman's wife, Missy, was watching the gig from the VIP area of the venue. She had nightmares and suffered severe depression due to losing her husband. This was particularly traumatic for her as she had previously suffered from depression, but had sought professional help and has recovered. Her psychiatrist said that the incident had caused the depression to recur. Daun, Bunga's brother, was listening to the live radio broadcast of the gig from his hotel room in Singapore. He heard the explosion and thought he heard Bunga screaming. He rushed to Changi airport, managed to catch a flight that was just leaving, and arrived at the hospital five hours after the accident. He was grief stricken when he saw Bunga's body which had yet to be moved to the mortuary and was still covered in blood and grime from the explosion. Daun developed a post-traumatic shock disorder. Lucy has attended every Starlight Xpress gig in Malaysia and has also travelled to a number of their overseas concerts. She is one of the founding members of their fan club and regularly contributes to their fan magazine. That day, she was standing near the stage but miraculously, was not hurt by the explosion. She has since been overcome with grief at the thought of never seeing the band perform again. Ambi was one of the first to arrive at the scene. He is a trainee ambulance man and this was his first major incident. He rushed to the stage but quickly saw that there was little he could do. He spent the next three hours comforting distraught fans and family members. He later suffered from recurring nightmares and panic attacks, and was unable to work for six months. Advise Missy, Daun, Lucy and Ambi (According to Malaysian Law of Tort).
