In layman's terms ,it is a project on Chapter 4. That will learn how to do scatter plot, find correlation coefficient, and linear regression equation using excel, the commonly used tool in the work place. The project should be finished as a Microsoft word document first, then covert it in PDF version. You will see a sample project at the end of the file. We will work on the following data of 10 pairs of numbers. The data involve infant ages in month and hours they slept in a day. We want to investigate if there is a relationship between infant age and the hour they sleep.

Part 1. Modify the data set. The first part of the project is to select 9 pairs of numbers from the data above, that is, we delete one pair. Which infant's data will be deleted and look at the last digit of a CWID (student ID), and delete the corresponding infant's data. If a CWID is 05358 We need to express the date set in the form of table as above in the report. To insert the table go to "Insert", and select "Table", then highlight a 10x3 table. Type the data into the table as above without the infant's data you delete. Part 2. Find the correlation coefficient. Open an excel sheet, enter word "Month" into cell a1, then enter the 9 numbers of months into cells a2 through a10. Enter word "Hour" into cell b1, and enter 9 numbers of hours slept into cells b2 through b10. To find the correlation coefficient, we type "Corr Coe" into cell a11, then click b11 (the answer will be entered here), then choose "Formula" from the top tool bar, select "More Functions", "Statistical", and choose "Correl". A window pops up. Enter a2:a10 into Array 1 and b2:b10 into Array 2, then click OK. The correlation coefficient will be calculated and appear in cell b11. (Here I don't delete any pair so that your result will be different from mine.) We want to copy the date set as well as the correlation coefficient onto the project report. Select from cell a1 through cell b11 in the spreadsheet, click copy, then paste it to the report as below. You can move the chart to the middle. Month Hour
