In November 1972, Lovely Middle School in Lilyville, Idaho, located in Van Buren County, had gastrointestinal illness occur among 202 students and 13 staff, causing high levels of absenteeism. The Van Buren Health Department was called in to investigate. Van Buren County, with a population of 8,643 according to the 1970 census, is a small rural county located in southeastern Idaho near the Wyoming border.
