In order for a state to become a member of the IMF, they do have requirements that must be met, such as paying their subscription quota. Twenty-five percent of each country's quota is paid in the form of special drawing rights (SDRs), which are a claim on the freely usable currencies of IMF members (Heakal, 2020). What happens if they do not pay this? Is there a penalty that they have to pay or are they kicked out of the IMF all together?
