In order to calculate the total amount of money stolen the following must happen.
First, we know that the employee has taken $50 per month over the last year. $50 x 12 months = $600.
We also know that the employee has taken $12 per day from the cash register. Assuming it is a five day work week, $12 x 5 day x 52 weeks = $3,120.
The amount collected on account by the employee is $800 and the amount pocketed due to incorrect fraudulent entries is $300. $800 + $300 = 1,100.
Adding those totals together, $600 + $3,120 + 1,100, gives us a total amount stolen by the employee, $4,820.
The owner of Snake Creek Company should immediately fire the employee as well as report the theft to the police. I would recommend that the owner has someone go even further back in the books to the beginning of the employees employment at Snake Creek to ensure that this is not something that has been going on the entire time. I would also recommend that the books are looked over quarterly to avoid finding something like this after an entire year has passed.
