InQuality King Distributors, Inc. v. L'anza Research International,

A. The first sale doctrine ultimately protected L'anza from Quality King's attempts to purchase L'anza's products abroad, then resale them in the United States at a deeply discounted price.

B. Quality King was violating L'anza's exclusive right to distribute its products only through authorized retailers and so did not finally prevail in its first sale defense. C. The first sale doctrine was ultimately found to protect the first sell abroad and the first sell after a product has been imported back into the United States; thus it protected the rights of Quality King.
