In spite of the discussion in your text, the fact of the matter is that generally, when you purchase a vehicle "as-is", it means exactly that, and you will have zero recourse if it breaks down the day you drive it home. This is not to infer used cars can't be great deals, but if you are buying from a private seller or a lot that has them marked "as-is", only make the purchase if you (or someone knowledgeable you know and trust) has inspected them thoroughly and finds them acceptable. And new or used, remember, there is ALWAYS another vehicle....don't think there is "one right one" for you. (Buy the way, this is true, so answer accordingly.)
