In the 1920's, the building was once a speakeasy during the prohibition era. During this time, the city of Ybor was known for being the "cigar capital of the world". With a prosperous cigar manufacturing industry, many immigrants were drawn to the city for its economic opportunities. To recognize this, the Blind Tiger serves coffee that is made from Cuban, Italian, German and Spanish coffee beans. They also sell baked goods and pastries that are inspired from those countries. Our initial contact was with Veronica, the store manager. During the meetings with Veronica, we asked of any initial problems the organization faces and how she views the organization's current state. Veronica views the Blind Tiger as a comforting, community-focused venture that seeks to enhance and support creativity among Ybor residents while enjoying coffee and socializing. After hearing some of the organization's problems, we decided to focus on employee turnover. When discussing turnover, Veronica said she wanted to increase employee satisfaction and the overall employee quality of life: "I know that reducing employee turnover is dependent on the total work environment I offer to my employees. Employees thrive when the work environment supports them in attaining their goals and aspirations. I want to enable my employees to balance work and life." To begin our organizational assessment, we decided to conduct a survey. The goal of the survey was to find out what is contributing to The Blind Tiger Cafe's high turnover rate and how to reduce it. The survey contained 10 multiple-choice questions. To increase perceptions of the survey's legitimacy, we added an official USF heading, so employees would have more confidence expressing their honest opinions. After the surveys were developed, hard copies were printed and given to Veronica. The copies were then distributed by Veronica to employees, depending on their work shift. While distributing the surveys, it was important for Veronica to address that the survey came from an outside independent study. Employees were given one week to complete the surveys and place them in a confidential folder. The total number of employees that completed the survey was 5 out of 7. Below are the questions included in the survey: 1. Are you satisfied working for this organization? 2. Do you feel you can progress career-wise with this organization? 3. Does your job become repetitive? 4. Do you enjoy working in a social environment? 5. Do you believe that the training provided you with the proper skills needed for your job? 6. Do you feel your work is appreciated? 7. Are you comfortable with the organization's culture and work environment? 8. Do you feel comfortable addressing concerns to managers or supervisors? 9. Does the management make you feel motivated to complete tasks? 10. Are you happy with the work hours you are scheduled?
