In the following vignette write out three examples of a MI intervention in response to what the client has shared.
Mark is a 19-year-old, male who lives with his parents and younger brother. His parents have brought him in for an assessment as they found marijuana in his room. The following is Mark's self-report. Mark began smoking pot at age 14. He began smoking at occasional parties but soon began to use it more often. At 15, Mark was smoking every weekend, often all evening. He was able to keep his grades up and was cooperative with his parents and brother. By 17 he was using at least one or two days during the week at night as well as on the weekends. His grades began to slip a little as he had to spend more time obtaining the marijuana, and recovering from his use. Mark had planned to go to college after he graduated from high school but by then was smoking more days than not. However, by 18 he was smoking every day, often beginning in the afternoon and he decided to go to work instead so he could smoke more easily. He has begun to sell marijuana as a way to be able to afford his use. He feels "funny" if he does not smoke by the evening, including restlessness, anxiety, and difficulty sleeping.
