In this course you have learned how trauma and adversity can shape an individual's journey through the lifespan. The road to resilience and healing for individuals, communities and groups are unique and the means to promote resilience are diverse in practice. The presentation will require you to research a practice which promotes resilience and healing for people or communities who have experienced trauma or adverse experiences.

The National Library of Medicine defined Expressive writing "As a tool through which the subject describes his/her most profound thoughts and feelings about emotional events." Expressive writing can help us make sense of our thoughts and emotions. It is a therapeutic method that involves writing for most daily. There are many different forms of expressive writing, which include memoirs, poetry, journaling/diaries, songwriting, and narrative writing. Expressive writing is relevant for individuals who experienced trauma because it helps them heal and become themselves again after they express what they have gone through (Traumatic events, anxiety, stress, depression) during the reflective writing process. Writing down their experience will have a positive effect on the individual's health. Expressive writing can help individuals become more organized when they put their emotions/thoughts into writing, like journaling. For an individual who has experienced trauma, practicing expressive writing helps with clearing their path at times if they feel stuck or are in the "unknown". According to the Emotional and health benefits of expressive writing, writing about stressful, traumatic, or emotional events has been found to result in improvements in both physical and psychological health. It helps with resiliency; it gives a voice to victims who have experienced/gone through traumatic events. The three academic sources we will draw on for our final assignment are frontiersin.org; the article is about the research on Expressive Writing in Psychology, or how the publisher described it as "A systemic review of global academic publications of studies on expressive writing in psychology to date." It explains the history of Expressive writing, data collection/source, research strategy and content analysis. Cambridge.org is another source; it explains the emotional and physical health and the immediate and longer-term effects/benefits of expressive writing. The last source, Sciencedirect.com, focuses on theories of emotional processing, individuals who had experienced traumatic events, symptom severity of PTSD, and the mechanism that makes expressive writing beneficial. The creative platform we will be using is Prezi.com, which is an innovative web-based tool for presentation.
