In this exercise, you will use the information presented during the last few lectures and any other sources that you choose to complete a network capture and simple analysis.

You will want to generate some interesting network traffic to analyze. Some suggestions include uploading or downloading an image(s), logging into a website, uploading a clear text message like one written in TextPad, creating an email, etc.

Document each step with at least one screen shot and place all screen shots into a Word Document for upload as proof of completion of your weekly assignment. Be sure and give each screenshot a description.

Step 1

Select the Wireshark interface to capture and then begin the capture session.

Step 2

Navigate to several websites and upload/download an image(s) and do any of the other activities recommended above, or come up with some of your own.

Step 3

End the capture and save the file as a .pcap file (NetworkMiner may not work with other types of files).

Carve out an image with Wireshark

Step 5

Use NetworkMiner to view the images, plain text and one other tab of interest. Feel free to do some extra research on other features of the programs, if you desire.

Step 6

Write a short analysis of what you have found in using the tools. Add this analysis to the Word document you created earlier for your screenshots.
