Ideas for incidents: You may be creative here. There are many incidents that have been in the news lately, some right here in Colorado Springs. You can find many cases that resulted in civil lawsuits, settlements, and criminal charges (resulting in both convictions and acquittals). There are cases where officers have refrained from using force, with different results. There are cases involving deadly force, non-deadly force, tasers, non-lethal bullets, different physical techniques, police dogs, etc. There are cases that have gone all the way to the United States Supreme Court, state supreme courts, or that have simply been tried in the court of public opinion. Your case need not focus on police officersyou may cover incidents involving judges, corrections officers, military members, and so on. Please don't choose a case that I've already covered in our learning modules. Please choose a case that has not received extensive national media coverage. Please do your best to pick a case from Colorado or your home state. This is a chance to explore a case that interests you and resonates with your sense of ethics. I look forward to learning from you this week!
