In this role, you will be responsible for network analysis and design.
This will involve two types of activity:
- Identifying, visualizing, modelling, configuring, simulating, and documenting network scenarios
- Contributing to your project team's strategy for migrating a web application to a Cloud services environment?
You'll start by displaying protocol hierarchies and identifying network endpoints. ?You'll create network diagrams using a diagramming tool (e.g. MS Visio, Lucidchart, etc.) and look at ways of capturing network data using a network simulation application (e.g. CISCO Packet Tracer, NetSim, OPNET Modeler, etc. ). ?Your network model/configuration will describe the network (nodes, routers, switches, links) and the events (data transmissions, packet error, etc.). The output results will include network-level metrics, link metrics, device metrics, etc. ?This will allow you to outline your team's network security assessment methods, network management parameters, and set up other baseline activity monitoring.
You will be working closely with all members of your team but in particular, the Data Analyst to ensure modelling of effective resources are in place to support the development of appropriate design and planning for your web application initial hosting and testing, and the subsequent migration to the Cloud. Due to the size and complexity of Advanced Consulting Services mission-critical, real-time applications (e.g. video conferencing, remote desktop, etc) and related services this application can not be deployed onto either of their existing hybrid IP/MPLS or SD-Wan networks that link its main HQs (Melbourne) to regional offices interstate (Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth). ? So, you need to propose, configure, model and then simulate a scaled network solution/scenario to match your Project Team's application requirements appropriate to Stage 1, and later Stage 2 deliverables. ?You will need to employ the network simulator (e.g. NetSim) to visualize your network, configure all components, preferably via a Graphical user interface(GUI) that will then be stimulated by the application (e.g. Netsim) engine. ?This will generate a range of metrics and a virtual network stack with no scripting or coding required that mimics the real work stack. ?
Stage 1 - Activities
Network Planning, Simulation & Specification
In Stage 1 (Modules 1 & 2) using a traditional network planning methodology, you will begin by specifying the context requirements of your team's business decisions, your team's network needs, and resource requirements. ?This will provide a framework for the development of the best solution for your network topology, ?model development, execution, performance analysis, operations, and maintenance profiles. This planning and baseline specification development will provide support to your team's proposal and the bais of the initial simulation of your network scenario. ?That simulation will enable you to:
- Model the network topology
- Specify the node and network links configurations
- Model the application flow (traffic) between the nodes
- Generate network performance metrics
- produce clear visualization of the packet flow
- provide data for technology/protocol evaluation and device designs
- undertake logging of packet/events for drill-down analyses/debugging as required
Team Support Activities
- Prepare memos and/or presentations,
- Be an active and effective team member,
- Participate in all virtual meetings,
- Be able to take a leadership role in the course of the project
Migration Strategy
In Stage 1 (Modules 1 & 2) planning for and contributing to the team's migration strategy (e.g. ?Rehosting, Replatforming, Repurchasing, Rearchitecting, etc.); assisting with spelling out the specific business benefits (e.g. Agility and scalability; Decreased footprint; Disaster recovery; Security, etc.) that supports and is in line with the team's agreed business strategy; and taking account of the challenges (Downtime, Data loss, Resource management, Interoperability, etc.) that could occur in the various networking and/or hosting scenarios that the team proposes.
Stage 1 - Deliverables
On completion of the Stage 1 activities, you will create a document, which includes the following as a minimum, in the form of flow charts, diagrams, with summary text analysis:
- High-level network diagram using any appropriate graphic tool output
- Describe the requirements for the most suitable connectivity requirements to prepare for your team's chosen Cloud deployment strategy
- Documented Application / Server resource profiles including data storage requirements as required
- Network simulation data for your single page application
- Evaluate any alternative design proposals
- Identify any risks and issues
- Describe relevant firewall rules
Stage 2 - Activities
Network Design
In Stage 2 (Week 7 to Week 12) this will involve setting out the design.
- Detailed planning and design of proposed Networking configuration?
- Detailed network connectivity design (including required changes)
- Design of Public facing services (SMTP, WWW, VPN, etc.) and firewall rules
Application/Server Specification
- Creation of a detailed application/server resource profile including application dependency mapping and the confirmation of all services.
- Determine Detailed Migration strategy for all identified services and associated migration profiles?
- Identify application testing requirements and responsibilities
Deploy Wireshark
- Troubleshoot performance problems by monitoring network data from the web application
- Verify internal control system effectiveness (firewalls, access control, Web filter, spam filter, proxy)
- Illustrate primary data for day-to-day network monitoring and management
Stage 2 - Deliverables
On completion of all Stage 2 activities you will create a series of detailed design documents, which includes the following:
- Detailed network design supporting your team's application
- Detailed Application / Server migration strategy
- Network protocol analyzer (Wireshark) simulation outputs for final application proposal
- Relevant OS License reporting
