In your replies to at least two peers, use the questions below to guide your discussion. Make sure to cite any evidence you use to support your ideas.

  • Do you agree or disagree with your peer's initial post? Why or why not?
  • What examples from the textbook or outside resources (such as news articles) support or dispute your peer's stance, and how?
  • Did your peer provide any insight or information that changed your opinion about the TBL? If so, how?

Personally, I do think that it is the responsibility of businesses to track and manage the social, economic, and environmental impacts of their actions. As someone who wants to own a business someday, I would want to make sure that I was monitoring these things. I think it is the morally right thing to do, and I think it can also benefit your business. Showing your consumers that you do care about these types of things can increase good feedback on your business.

As I mentioned above, using the TBL can show people how much you care about this sort of thing. You can also use it to promote your business. Although, some companies may take advantage of this. A major drawback of the TBL is that you can't really measure it. Sometimes you have to trust what companies say and they may not be including the whole truth. However, I do think that the TBL is worth the potential drawbacks.

Businesses that use the TBL are becoming the model of how businesses should pay more attention to the results of their actions. They are proving that you can be aware of all of the outcomes that your business has. If TBL were not in place, there would be even less businesses that actually look into the impacts of their actions. With the TBL in place, it gives businesses a guideline of what they should be doing.
