Problem A: Analysis of light aircraft rudder The rudder of an aircraft is usually found at the tail and is responsible for allowing the pilot to control the yaw about the vertical axis. Figure 2 shows a typical rear setup of a small aircraft, with the rudder coloured in gold. During maintenance, one way of mounting the rudder is to place one edge on a fixed pivot, whilst attaching the other edge on the end of an operational cable.
