• Include which social determinant of health you selected and a particular related issue for that determinant (e.g., Employment. Lack of sick leave policies)
• Describe how that social determinant may influence health in general.(e.g., delays in care and health diagnoses, more health complications because of delays)
• Describe how you may adapt a public health program or policy to address your selected social determinant to achieve more equitable health outcomes.(e.g., develop state-level policies that would provide incentives for businesses to adopt sick leave policies through tax-cuts or other refunds). Below, I provide a list of potential, but not limited to, approaches for addressing health equity when developing public health programs and policies.

- Focus resources in high-risk areas

- Greater outreach, communication in high-risk areas, particular groups most affected

- Work collaboratively with communities, populations - better understand and address their needs

- Work with non-health sector to address the physical, social environments in which we live (e.g., urban planning)

- Establish political will

- Eliminate structural barriers - policies that maintain health barriers
