Inpatient coding deals with patients staying overnight in hospitals. It also involves very complex procedures while using ICD$-10-$CM codes and ICD$-10-$PCS codes. Outpatient coding is pretty much shorter visits in clinics, ambulatory centers, and emergency departments. Inpatient coding is more detailed due to extended care periods while outpatient coding is faster$-$paced. I think that I would prefer to work in faster paced settings like Outpatient so that the days will go by faster.
