Instructions
Based on your readings, forecast are considered more accurate closer to the "present" day so the operations team usually will want the sales team to update the sales forecast, at the stock keeping unit (SKU) level, at least one more time before "present" day. The production planner releases the production plan to the production floor on the Friday before the following week. For example, if we are in Week 10(W10 would be March 6-10,2023), then the production planner will release next week's production job, W11, to the production floor (production manager and production supervisors) before "close of business (COB) on Friday, March 10,2023.
There is a 2 week timefence before present day. Any forecast that requires changes within the 2 week timefence requires approval by the Vice President of Operations.
In Week 10, as an operations manager, what week are you expecting the sales team to update their sales projections/forecast?
(Example answer: As an operations manager, I would expect the sales team to update their Week 12(W12) SKU sales projections/forecast by WX because of "reason 1," "reason 2" and "reason 3."
The words highlighted in blue, bolded, and underline should be your own answers. The "reasons" are the rationale on why you chose to "...update their WX SKU sales projections/forecast by WX..."
Please note: The above scenario is usually part of the Sales & Operations (S&OP) planning process. For your answer, it should consider the needs of the production team, the production planning team, the purchasing team, the warehouse materials team, and the sales team.
