Instructions "Network Design"

This LAB includes looking at the design a network (combination of wireless and wired) for a home under construction. The house has two levels totaling 250 square meters (2700 feet squared).

The house will have five people which use:

Three laptops,

One desktop,

A multimedia server;

An internet connected TV;

Two multi-function printers, and

5 handheld devices with 802.11g.

The task is to make recommendations on the internet provider and the infrastructure requirements for the household. The home can be service by DSL or Cable internet connectivity in your area. (if your area does not have both pick a metropolitan area with both)

Answer the following questions in your written assignment:

Draw a basic floor plan for each floor, so that you can add the devices to their usage locations. (The floor plan does not have to be elaborate)

Research a local ISP offering DSL and one offering Cable and provide a table with the details for comparison (Price, bandwidth options, service guarantees, etc...) (You can use the information form the discussion)

Based on the data you supplied, make a recommendation on the provider and the service for this situation.

Recommend the network infrastructure devices needed to support the house and supply a wiring diagram. (Devices would include routers, switches, wireless access points)

Actual device information should be used from a vendor(s) of your choice.

Based on the scenario, should the home be hardwired, wireless or both?

Be sure to denote the IP addresses, the connection types and the protocols used for each device in the network?

Annotate the connections on the floor plan.
