Instructions: On the basis of the scenario listed below, draft an informal unsolicited proposal in the format of a business memo. In drafting your proposal
- Use what you learned during this term about writing memos and proposals
- Include all elements of a business memo and all sections required in a proposal
- Use a direct pattern of organizing your content
Aim for at least 500 words. Use your own words and do not repeat the wording of your scenario.
You are employed as a graphic designer in a creative department at a small advertising agency, and you and your colleagues are finding it hard to get your mojo running in the environment you work in. The workplace is drabpainted a depressing pea-green and devoid of artwork, with large beige curtains covering the windows at either end of the long room and hideous linoleum on the floor. The boss has noted that the productivity in your department has gone down of late, so he has asked you to come up with some solutions to this problem in a proposal.
The company is situated in a century-old building that has great bone stricture. You are sure that if the nasty linoleum were lifted, the original wood floor would be revealed and could be refinished. A historical photo you found in a dusty closet indicates that there are decorative brick walls beneath the poorly applied, lumpy drywall. A dropped ceiling partially covers the very tall windows, and if it were removed, there would be significantly more natural light.
You and your colleagues have decided to propose a renovation to the space to make it warmer, sunnier, and more user-friendly. You know that the company is in its early phase of growth, so there isnt a lot of money around for the owners to splash out on contractors. Therefore, you all have decided that you will do whatever work can be done without specialized skills. Fortunately, one of the graphic designers worked in construction when he was at college, so he will be able to provide the expertise to ensure that the floor, walls, dropped ceiling, and window renovations will be done properly by the rest of the group.
Write a proposal in a memo format (500 hundred words or two double-spaced printed pages) to Jacques Bellefair, your boss (and co-owner of the company), proposing the work that is to be done, timelines, and what you and your collogues are prepared to do to make it happen. You also need to ask for a certain amount of money for materials and equipment rentals and for three Fridays or Mondays off so that you can have three long weekends to get the job done. You know that this project will go a long way toward building solidarity in your work team, which will help the company to be even more successful.
The proposal should be divided into appropriate sections and subsections, arranged in the conventional order.
