Instructions:
The Group Research and Presentation contributes 20% to your final grade. Students will either form groups or be placed in groups by your tutor (your tutor will indicate how the groups will be formed). Each group will have 4 - 6 members and there will be no more than five (5) groups for each tutorial class. Groups will be required to conduct research and analysis in the areas assigned to them by their tutor and do a verbal presentation of the findings and submit a written report of 7-10 pages. The presentations will be done during the tutorial time in weeks 11 and 12 or as scheduled by your tutor. The written report is due in week 13 or as scheduled by your tutor. The written report is to be uploaded on the Moodle page in the slot provided for your tutor and submitted by any other means as indicated by your tutor.
For this assignment each Group will be required to conduct research and analysis at the Individual, Group and Organizational levels. Each group should select two (2) members of their group that they will conduct the research and analysis on. Each group will be assigned a specific area from the areas listed below at the Individual, Group and Organizational Level by their tutor. Each group will conduct research on the two group members in the designated areas. The data collection method for the research can take the form of interviews of the two group members. Groups can employ other data collection methods such as assessment instruments as desired and applicable.
The analysis should focus on how the areas assigned at the Individual, Group and Organizational Levels impact on the performance and productivity of the two students and a group that they are or were a part of at UTECH. As such the areas assigned will become Independent Variables and the groups will be analyzing how they impact on the individual and group performance and productivity which will be the dependent variables. The groups will also compare and contrast the impact of the independent variables assigned on the performance and productivity of each group member analyzed. Groups are not required to identify the group members being analyzed by name - pseudonyms can be used or the group members can be referred to as Student A and Student B.
For example, a group might be assigned Personality at the Individual Level; Group Norms at the Group Level and Work Stress at the Organizational Level. The group will collect information through interviews or other methods on what personality type each of the two group members being analyzed have, and how it impacts their performance and productivity as students and members of the group that they are or were a part of. The group will also through interview or other methods collect information on how the Group Norms impacts the performance and productivity of the students being studied or the group that they are or were a part of. The group will through interviews or other methods collect information on how stress is impacting on the performance and productivity of the two individuals or the group as a whole. The analysis at the three levels will involve comparing and contrasting the impact that the independent variables has on the performance and productivity of each group member analyzed.
For the Organizational Level of Analysis groups can use the class that they are a part of; the school or college/faculty that they are a part of or the University as a whole are the reference organization that they are focusing on. Groups with the guidance of their tutors may narrow the focus of the areas that they have been assigned if they are deemed to be too broad to be addressed the time given for completion of this assignment.
Each group will be assigned one area each from the Individual, Group and Organizational Level by their tutor from the areas listed below.
Individual Level Areas
- Perception
