Interpersonal conflict is conflict with another individual. In the workplace, interpersonal conflict occurs when one or more coworkers interfere with another coworker's efforts to accomplish a task or fulfill a goal. For example, assume that one coworker, named Melissa, is striving to prepare a report that must be released by a deadline. To meet this deadline, Melissa needs information from Joseph and Anita, coworkers in Melissa's work group. Joseph and Anita are not getting the job done in a timely manner and are not providing Melissa with the information needed to complete the report. As a result, Melissa misses the deadline and feels annoyance towards Joseph and Anita because they did not cooperate with her and get the job done. This situation creates interpersonal conflict for Melissa with Joseph and Anita. If the three of them continue to work together and cannot resolve this conflict, their working relationship may be strained, leading to problems as they work together
