As she turned into Churchill Square she saw the suspect John Webster standing near the front window of Shoppers Drug Mart. Webster had a hammer in his right hand and the front window was broken. It was clear that Shoppers was closed for the evening and no one was on the premises. Constable Blake went to where Webster was standing, glass lay on the pavement nearby and inside the premises. She also noticed that Webster had a jagged cut to the right sleeve of his jacket. Webster immediately said to the ofcer \"IT WAS AN ACCIDENT\". Constable Blake arrested Webster on suspicion of causing criminal damage and when cautioned he made no reply. When searched at the police station Webster had a Chester Dawe's plastic bag in his jacket pocket with a receipt showing purchase of the hammer at 4:45 pm today. Webster has asked for a lawyer to be present during any interview and the lawyer has been contacted]I Telephone contact has been made with the keyholder Janet Simmonds. She states she knows Webster as being a frequent customer of the store and that a few days ago he had an argument with the manager, Rose Carter, he had been asked to leave the premises as he was upsetting customers. Arrangements have been made for statements to be taken tomorrow morning
